Kohl's & BF Waiting Line Integrity

Post Kohl's & BF Waiting Line Integrity
Kohl's needs to enforce waiting line integrity. On BF morning 2008 I was about mid-way in a Kohl's Department store waiting line which consisted of about 250 people. Kohl's opened their doors at 4:00 AM, at which time a exodus of shoppers waiting in their cars made a mad dash to the front doors. Some 75 people were able to breach the line without any enforcement made by the merchant.

I live in the upper south, although their was a zero dark thirty nip in the air it was not unbearable. Kohls lack of line enforcement makes me want to spend by BF dollars elsewhere.

I've never been there at opening, but I can attest that our Kohl's was pretty much a check out free for all until last year. They actually had people directing the check out lines last year, so maybe they'll improve the outside this year...

I was unaware that any store has a line policy or anything like that. I would consider it more of an honor system, I mean really I couldnt see any store saying no you cant come in before that guy cuz he was here longer. Now when it comes to lining up to say get a ticket for an item i can see that because the store is saying line up but as for waiting outside the store isnt telling anyone to line outside thier doors.

They can enter any store their heart desires but at the end of the line after everybody else It is not fair those who have waited an hour or more.

if someone really wants to be an ass then they really have the ability to do so. Most stores do not enforce a line policy, which kinda sucks, but it's something to be expected. yea it's not fair, and i stand at the end of the line and wait my turn but it's always going to happen.
to refuse to go to a store because they didn't keep people from line cutting is a bit ridiculous. it happens everywhere except best buy because they have to be that organized.
If i were a store manager I would tell my employees to open the doors and get the hell out of the way, they don't need to be put in harms danger just because they need to make some extra cash and are forced to work on black friday.

i guess it could be like the concerts, lol, pass through a metal detector. we went to a concert in pensacola and got everything but a vaginal exam. biloxi? just plow on through more or less.
stores around here on bf are usually ok. i don't mind letting someone with a few items in front of me if i have a cartful. however i hate linejumpers if they don't ask first. i don't see kohl's being staffed well enough to do line patrol. my son is a cashier/ self check person for walmart. they intend to keep things as orderly as possible this year. already had their strategy meetings.

Walmart uses the baskets as a barrier and they even had local police last year but that place is a jungle. So whats worse crazy PMS soccer moms or dirty ghetto people? Thats a no brainer!

people don't start to line up at kohls about an hour or so before, or at least that's when the line gets really long

one year kohls allowed people to wait at both doors and even inside the double doors, then last year they switched it to only one set of doors and completely outside.

if you get there 2 hours before they open you'll probably be first in line.
and normally you'll have the people who come in at the list minute and try to crowd the doors as they open. depending on the store they will either let those people cut in line or sometimes try to make them wait.

as far as the checkout lines, I've always thought kohls has an awesome system. they completely rope off the check out lines so that there's one way to enter and they have someone standing their directing people to which register to go to so that they don't get crowded. but yes this generally leads to a line wrapped around the store but i think it's pretty effective. kinda ala best buy/toys r us style.

Kohls is awful on Black Friday. I was there two years ago to pick up a steamer on sale and the line at my store winded all through the building. They did not have the capacity to ring people out all that fast. Its was about 11:30 and they announced that anybody in line that had a sale item that went off sale at Noon would not get the sale price if they did not reach a register in time. I am not even kidding about this. I wasn't even in line and was just going to leave but they said if you were buying jewelry you could ring out all your purchases at the jewelry counter. My wife found a cheap pair of earrings she like and we were out in five minutes.

yea if you don't get to kohls as soon as they open then you will be in pure hell. I always get there when they open and i'm in and out within 30 min. usually i'm ready to go before the check out lines starts to build but i'm always waiting for my friend. once it starts to get about halfway to the back of the store then i jump in line and tell her to hurry up!
but that's how everywhere is. and our kohls seems to have more checkout lines than most other stores anywhere (except best buy) and at least they're halfway organized with their checkout process unlike a lot of other stores (MENARDS - KMART - TARGET - etc...)

It all depends on local store management. Some care and put in the effort to make the lines fair. Others don't care and just let things happen as they will. My recommendation would be, if you care enough about the issue, to let the corporate headquarters know if a particular store isn't doing things right. If the corporate office leans on the local stores, then maybe things might change.

Kohl's is always terrible on Black Friday, even without line jumping. They have the slowest checkout registers out of any store I've seen.

well here is my tip for the Jewelry counter. get your number, and when you find what you want, stand in front of it and do not move for anyone. that way you can watch and see if someone gets it before you and you can also prevent other people from seeing it.

do not move from that spot until you get what you want.

That shouldn't be allowed. if you have the item in your hand before noon then you shoudl get it at that price. It's not your fault if their line ups are over 2 hours long.
And don't listen to the BS about how the computers are programed and they can't do anything. There's a price override key for a reason!

then they'd have to hit the price override button for the next 3 hours and have to look up every single price for almost every single item. it was cause a HUGE mess.
people just need to learn to get there early to get the deals. and then how are they suppose to know who actually got in line AFTER the sales price ended?
realistically honoring the special deal only works when it's a certain discount off. michaels had that once where from like 6-8 you could get so much off an item and from 8-9 a different discount. when you walked in the door they initialed your coupon so that even fi you didn't get up there till after the specific time period they would still honor it.

however... doing that at kohls would be beyond ridiculous. it would take like 30 minutes for a person to ring up a sale because they'd be so busy looking through the flyer to find the sale price! and then people's orders would get really screwed up and then everyone would have to go back to the customer service desk to get things fixed. HUGE MESS.
